All properties purchased through the Strategic Buyout Program will be demolished and returned to greenspace to minimize future losses of life and property. The program will comply with all local, state, federal and environmental regulations and permitting requirements during this process. Following clearance of the property, the land will be kept as open space and can be used as greenspace, wetlands restoration, or other projects that preserve the land and reduce the risk of flooding. The land can also be used for recreational projects including parks or bike paths.
At this point, applicants and other owners no longer play an active role in the program, however, their case manager will continue to reach out occasionally to answer any questions about the program or incentives.
